About Ten Kitchens
Welcome to Ten Kitchens! This site is about food generally, but really it’s about food in America—the way diverse food traditions come together and influence each other; stand side by side, while tightly holding on to tradition; or fall somewhere in between.
Hi, my name is Rachel. I love food: I love eating it, cooking it, reading about it, talking about it. I love how it influences people, expresses culture, politics, history—and on and on. I’m also a librarian, a writer, and a mom.
My culinary background is American, with Eastern European Jewish and New England influences. My husband is of Indian origin, Punjabi to be precise, and grew up with the good fortune of having a mother who cooks extremely well and sees a bounty of food as an expression of her love. I want to give our daughter a culinary background that reflects both of us, the place where she’s from, and American food in general.
I’ve been crazy about food for as long as I can remember. And I’ve been wanting to write about food for a very long time. Now I am. I hope you find something here that you enjoy!
